The captain of A League glamour club Sydney FC, Steve Corica has enjoyed a glittering career as an Australian Soccer star. With 32 games for the Socceroos and more than 300 first class games, Corica is one of the most respected figures in Australian soccer. He scored the only goal to help Sydney FC to a 1-0 victory over the Central Coast Mariners in the inaugural A League Grand Final. Although Corica is now in the veteran class, he continues to be one of the most consistent players in Australian soccer. The North Queensland product has a family tradition of his children drawing a picture and leaving it in his bag prior to any away trip.

How hard is it spending so much time away from the kids during the season?
It is hard, I’m away every second week. But the kids are used to it, growing up in this sort of environment its normal for us. – Steve Corica

Do they take an active interest in your career?
Yes they do, before I travel for an away game they like to draw me a picture and leave it in my bag or even leave me a soft toy. – Steve Corica

Have you ever been asked to attend their school for "news"?
I have been to their school a few times for some charity causes and offering them some memorabilia. I also like to make it for ‘Fathers Friday’ which is an initiative of the school to invite dads to join in on their kids activities for the day. – Steve Corica

How hard is it when he has to be away from home on tour etc?
I’m used to it now, the longest he can be away for is 4 days, but he’s always is in touch. The kids love him and are so proud. It maybe a little harder now that we have a new 5 week baby, Jake. – Sandra Corica
