Steve Price is one of the NRL’s great ambassadors. In a career that has spanned 16 years and more than 300 games, Price has won two premierships with the Bulldogs, played 16 Tests for the Kangaroos and 28 games for his beloved Maroons’ in rugby league’s toughest arena, State of Origin. He is one of the game’s great spokesman and most respected figures for his longevity, clean cut image and strong, well thought views on the game and its future. That positive attitude is an extension of his family life. Price says the reason he gets up every morning is for his wife Jo, and three children. He wants his career to leave his kids with the legacy that they can excel and compete in something they love no matter what people say about them. Price said the major factor of his move from the Bulldogs, the club he joined as teenager straight out of high school at Toowoomba, to the New Zealand Warriors were his children. He said he wanted to give his children an experience they will remember and add to the people they will become. Price said: “I wish to set a good example for my kids as well as anyone else who see, hear or follow me. I have learned we can have a big impact on people and I treat that as a privilege.”

How big an inspiration are the kids to your career?
They are why I get up every morning and go to training. I believe we play a huge role in our kids attitudes and if the kids can learn that no matter what people say and how old you are that you can still compete and excel in something you love than hopefully they will adopt a similar attitude. They see both side of the story when dad is injured, sore, upset as well as when he is fit, winning and everyone wants to talk and see him. When we moved to New Zealand it was all about our kids and giving them an experience that they will remember forever and add to the person they become. – Steve Price

Do they take an active interest in your career?
Yeah the 3 kids take a big interest in the footy. My eldest daughter Jamie has been a ball girl for Warriors home games for the last 3 years. My second daughter loves going to the home games because she not only gets to watch dad but also looks after the babies of some of my teammates in the crèche during the game and my little bloke Riley just loves the game. He has all the footy cards, reads all the magazines and watches all the games. I think this is enhanced because their uncle is Brent Tate so they have 2 to follow. – Steve Price

What makes him such a great father?
When he is home he tries to get to all of their activities to support them in whatever it is they do. He will often come home from training in an afternoon and just walk through the door and say "C'mon we are all going to watch a movie" and none of us have time to do anything other than get out of the house and into the car. But really just the fact that he is always there for them and myself whenever. – Jo Price

How hard is it when he has to be away from home on tour etc?
The most difficult time I find is on weekends when you are trying to juggle the 3 kids sports in 3 totally different directions. The last origin series I found the hardest being away for such a long period of time. – Jo Price
