Archie Thompson is one of the most damaging strikers in the Hyundai A League and the “go to” man for two time Champions Melbourne Victory. The lightening quick striker is also one of the real characters of the National soccer competition with his outspoken thoughts and quick wit. The goal scoring machine returned to Australia after a stint with Lierse in the Belgian League, where he played 90 games and scored 38 goals. He has also played 32 games for the Socceroos. He scored five goals in the Victory’s 6-0 thrashing of Adelaide in the 2006 Grand Final. But he also has a World Record next to his name, scoring an incredible 13 goals in the Socceroos 31-0 defeat of American Samoa in a 2002 FIFA World Cup Qualifier. He was a member of Australia’s squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

How often do you talk to the kids when you are on an away trip?
I talk to them every day, its hard though to talk to my little girl at the moment cause I suppose its not cool to talk to your dad on the phone, but I always get an "I love you" in the background, that’s enough for me. Little Axel jumps on straight away and tells me about his day, that is until he gets sidetracked by Ben 10. – Archie Thompson

What is your favourite activity with the kids?
Both kids have their own golf sets so look out Tiger. I enjoy hitting balls with Axel at the driving range and Bella and I love our daddy daughter time, although sometimes its little hard to stomach "Hannha Montana" movies, but if that what makes her happy then that’s what I have to do. – Archie Thompson

Besides their birth, obviously, what is your most memorable moment with your kids?
Bella's first day off kinder, my wife and I walked her in, both of us emotional, but she didn't give us a second look and now she has a better social life than me and she's only 6. My most memorable moment with Axel was when he gave me a huge hug and told me he wanted to be a footballer like me, I was very proud! – Archie Thompson

Favourite family holiday?
Simple, Fiji. – Archie Thompson

Do they recognise him on television?
Absolutely. "Look there's daddy"..."Look there he is again" they get a real kick out of that. To be honest though, I don't know how much football they watch they just wait to see daddy come on the TV. – Emmy

What is the best thing dad does for you?
Get me lollies after school. - Bella
