Sydney, Australia — This Father’s Day, Philips is showcasing the contribution that Australia’s sporting elite make to their families both on and off the field with the ‘Philips Sports Dad of the Year’ Award. In its inaugural year, the ‘Philips Sports Dad of the Year’ will highlight twelve elite athletes, giving insights into how they juggle fatherhood and sporting commitments.
The nominated Sports Dad’s will be profiled on a dedicated website www.sportsdads.com.au which will include family Q&A’s, as well as never before seen family photos. Leading into the grand finals of NRL and AFL, the following Sports Dad’s have been nominated for the inaugural award; one of NRL’s great ambassadors Steve Price; driving force behind the Bulldogs Brett Kimmorley; stunning comeback to NRL John Skandalis; one of the Roosters leading men Sam Perrett; out of retirement Brisbane Broncos Tonie Carroll and one of the most recognizable faces in NRL and attacking weapon for St George Illawarra Wendell Sailor. Recently having played his 300th game of AFL is Sydney Swans Michael O’Loughlin who has been nominated along with fellow AFL stars Essendon’s Matthew Lloyd and Western Bulldogs Adam Cooney.
Tennis and Football are ramping up their sporting seasons and in the running for Sports Dad of the Year is Aussie Tennis star Peter Luczak and and one of the most respected figures in Australian Soccer Captain of Sydney FC Steve Corica, who is joined by fellow Socceroo and lightening quick striker Archie Thompson.
Every person that votes for their favourite Sports Dad will enter the competition to win one of four $5000 Philips Ultimate Father’s Day Grooming Packs and the winning Philips Sports Dad of the Year 2009 will win $5000 from Philips to donate to their charity of choice.
